Rev. Erik Christensen is Honored Speaker for 125th Anniversary Celebration
We're thrilled that the Rev. Erik Christensen will be our honored speaker for our 125th Anniversary Celebration coming up on Saturday, October 25th. Pastor Erik served St. Luke's from 2006-2017.
The Rev. Erik Christensen (he/him) is the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Evanston, Ill., and has served as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) since 2006. Prior to his current call, Pastor Erik served as the pastor to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Logan Square (2006-2017) and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (2017-2024). He has also served on the boards of Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries, Logan Square Neighborhood Association (now Palenque LSNA), and the Beatitudes Society. He has previously served as the Dean of the Central Conference of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod as well as on the synod council.
Pastor Erik is a frequent contributor to the Sundays and Seasons series of liturgical resources published by Augsburg Fortress as well as a contributing writer for Worship Matters: An Introduction to Worship (2012), In These or Similar Words: Crafting Language for Worship (2015), and All Creation Sings (2020). For his work as a pastor, preacher, and worship leader he has been recognized with the Emerging Leader Award by the Institute of Liturgical Studies (2019) and selected for the Risky Preaching initiative of the University of Chicago Divinity School (2025).
The child of musicians, Erik grew up singing and continues to enjoy opportunities to make music in community. He currently sings with common pulse, a project of Chicago Artists for Action. He lives in the Albany Park neighborhood on Chicago’s northwest side with his husband, Kerry Jenkins, and their dog, Matilda.
