Hispanic Heritage Month

September 21—October 12

Bienvenido al Mes de la Herencia Hispana (Hispanic Heritage Month)—a time to honor the stories, raíces, and resilience of Latin American and Caribbean peoples. This is more than a celebration of culture; it’s a sacred remembering of those who have danced, prayed, and protested their way into history.

Rooted in the heart of Latino Liberation Theology, we affirm that God walks with the campesino, the abuela, the migrant, the poet. We celebrate a faith that rises from the margins, speaks with accented truth, and builds justice from the ground up.

From the rhythms of Bomba, Plena, Salsa y Cumbia to the wisdom of Taíno elders, Andean farmers, and the ancient traditions of African griots, our heritage is a mosaic of beauty and resistance. It is the vibrant dances of Indigenous peoples, the rich cultural expressions of Chicano communities, and the dynamic poetry and art of Nuyorican voices. It is the voice that refuses to be silenced, the joy that blooms in struggle, and the divine presence that lifts the lowly and blesses what the world forgets.

This month, we remember that:

  • What is broken is what God blesses.

  • What is hushed, God amplifies with a mighty voice.

  • What is budding, God delights in with a joyful heart.

  • What is fully known, God calls beloved with an everlasting love.
