Who We Are

Welcome Statement

  • We, at St. Luke’s, strive to be a radically welcoming congregation.

  • We affirm all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and other diverse backgrounds. Wherever you are from, whatever you believe or doubt, you are loved by God and by us.

  • We are on a journey toward antiracist and anti-oppression transformation, seeking to inhabit these values as lifelong spiritual practices.

  • Your presence among us strengthens the community of Christ and you are welcome here!

Who We Are Becoming

As individuals and as a community, we are always in the process of becoming.

At St. Luke’s, this looks like engaging in the liberation theology model of action and reflection:

  • We learn and reflect together about the systemic sin (oppression) in our world that takes root within each of us.

  • We take meaningful action towards justice and liberation.

You’ll see Liberation Theology at work in our Worship, Antiracism Ministry, Public Faith Team, Intergenerational Ministry, and more:

  • Working for affordable/public housing with Logan Square Ecumenical Alliance

  • Reading books that challenge and inspire us

  • Working for a publicly funded mental health center with Coalition to Save Our Mental Health Centers

  • Partnering with Logan Square Neighborhood Association in solidarity with longtime residents of Logan Square

  • Partnering with The People’s Lobby, SOUL, Chicago Community Bond Fund, and more on issues of police brutality and racial justice

  • Partnering with Grace UMC to be a space for community faith and justice
